Our History
The name Caal Care was formed using the first 2 letter of Cathy and Alison’s names (CAAL)
Alison and Cathy are both registered Learning disability nurses and specialised practitioners in their field. They had the opportunity to purchase this established business when the previous owners decided it was time to retire.
During the 1990s, Alison an Cathy were involved in the introduction of the community care Act, supporting people to move from institutional settings into the community. In her senior NHS role, Alison played a key part in the transition.
Cathy left her position in the NHS and began developing the service. Alison continued in her NHS role as a senior manager and later became the live-in manager. She moved into accommodation at Roselodge bringing a family feel to the service.
When they first arrived at Roselodge, 12 adults with learning disabilities were supported in the house. The service was not registered with a professional body, and, at that time, it was not registered with or inspected by Scotland’s regulator, the care inspectorate.
Alison and Cathy had a clear vision: to provide high quality, person centred care and support in a safe, homely environment that promotes choice, dignity and independence.
It has grown from two staff members to a team of 20 highly experienced and well trained people. All staff are registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC), the professional body for the social care workforce, and the service is registered with and inspected by the Care Inspectorate.
The service has continued to develop over the years, expanding from the main property at 57 Seafield Road to 3 properties: 57, 76 and 78 Seafield Road. Today, 26 adults with learning disabilities receive support to live as independently as possible within the community, supported by a highly experienced staff team to achieve their personal outcomes.
